Twins? 3 Quick Tips You Need to Know Now
Moms who are carrying twins have twice the concerns and many wonder how their pregnancy will be different from a mom who’s carrying one. Your pregnancy will be similar to that of someone carrying a single baby in some ways and different in others.
Here are a few quick tips to remember:
1. First, you’ll need to eat a bit more. For one baby, a mom needs an extra 300 calories per day. For twins, it’s 600 extra calories.
2. A woman carrying twins is also more likely to deliver prematurely. Ask your health care provider for the Fetal Fibronectin Test to see if you’re more likely to go into labor prematurely.
3. Twin pregnancies can also mean more discomfort for moms from the stretching of the skin to the heartburn, indigestion and pressure on the pelvis from the added weight and size of the two babies combined. Try to find a pool and take a pregnancy water aerobics class, this will help take the pressure off your pelvis and your legs. It can help you sleep better at night.
4. Join a Twins club or on-line group to get tips on baby nurses, equipment and advice from other moms who’ve been through what you’re likely to experience.
5. I say, nurture yourself whenever possible with any pregnancy, especially when it’s double the fun.
