Want to scare a pregnant woman? Tell her what her life is going to be like after the new baby comes along. You know what? They never believe it. No way, they say, I’ll get so much done when the baby sleeps.
When you hear this, try not to roll your eyes or smirk or say something clever like, You’ll see.
Many new parents are shocked, disappointed and angry by how much time it takes for 2 grown adults to care for teeny tiny new babies that weigh less than 15 pounds dripping wet.
These little cuties like to eat every 2 ½ to 3 hours, pee and poop in their diapers and like to be snuggled to fall into a contented sleep. These are the easy babies. Easy babies are not a full time job, they are easily 2 full time jobs! Try getting out of the house with a packed diaper bag, stroller and then placing the sweet faced baby into the car seat.
What if your baby is not as easy? What if they have colic? Or they spit up a little bit of each meal all over themselves and anyone within arms reach? What if they only fall asleep in a moving car, or after being rocked, swayed and jiggled for at least 40 un-interrupted minutes?
You know when new parents have figured it out. They have that glazed over look, their hair is a mess, the dark circles extend down to their chins and they can barely form a coherent sentence. This is hard, they acknowledge. Welcome to the club.
